Art Photography

As my interest in photography grew I sought advice from a cousin, who was a commercial artist. He advised me to master black and white photography, and look at work by Ansel Adams and others. I bought two of Adams' portfolio books and was inspired to strive to be as good a photographer as he was. In learning about Adams I discovered Edward Weston, and re-discovered W. Eugene Smith. They were my three big influences. Each one had a great eye, but, looking back on it now, I would say Adams taught me technique. Smith taught me to develop my timing and story telling. Weston taught me that everything was subject matter, it's how you design a picture.

I began entering competitions, and was accepted into the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, the Photoimagers' Guild, and the Pittsburgh Society of Artists. I have been in numerous regional exhibits, and a few national, and two international shows. In the past 14 years, or so, I've been concentrating on one man shows and getting published.

The work in this gallery is pretty eclectic, from found objects and bicycles to cityscapes of Pittsburgh. I use a 4x5, Hasselblad, Canon, and Leica cameras. But it is not as much about equipment as it has always been about seeing, and sharing what I saw in photographs.

PHOTOGRAPHS AND ART PRINTS

Original photographs will be available as 8x10's and 11x14's. Made on premium fiber based paper and selenium toned. Photographs designated wit LF in the catalogue number will also be available as contact prints, and mounted and matted as 11x14's. Original photographs are limited to editions of 20. Reproduction art prints can be made of all photographs on acid free fine art paper and archival ink. Art prints can be made in a variety of sizes, depending on the format of the original negative, and limited to editions of 100.

I will be rotating work in my e-bay store on a monthly basis. Orders can also be made through my contact page, but credit card orders can only be handled through my store. I appreciate comments through my contact page on pictures you are interested in.
